This week we join the national Week Against Racism campaign. Monday 21st is UN’s International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The week is designed to promote equality and emphasize the responsibility of individuals in tackling racism. We believe that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.
In Xamk we have students coming from different backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities and nationalities. Let’s unite against racism and discrimination. Let’s embrace each other’s differences, we are all born different and equal.
Racism is an ideology that provokes hate and creates inequality between people. It tries to deny human rights that should be equally accessible to everyone. Racism hurts the victims of racism and damages the whole society. Everyone has a right to be treated as an individual. Not based on their appearance, ethnicity or skin color. All human beings are equal in dignity.
Student Union Kaakko doesn’t tolerate any acts of racism and emphasizes that there is no room for racism in our university community. For us, all students are equal and we welcome all of them to take part in our activities and events. Our university community must be an open and safe environment for everyone.
In Xamk we celebrate this day to remind everybody that our differences don’t divide us, it is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences.
This week you can see at campuses giving out overall badges and pins of the anti-racism theme. You can use our common flip chart to write your thoughts and ideas on tackling racism.
