Student Union Kaakko is the student union of South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences. We supervise and promote the interests and well-being of all Xamk students. We work to ensure that being a student is the best time of your life.
In the student union, you can choose to pursue a number of activities, from being a student tutor to working as a member of the Representative Body, Board or Campus Committee. Do not hesitate to contact the Board or active student union members on your campus!
"Student Union Kaakko is present on all four campuses of South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences: Mikkeli, Savonlinna, Kouvola and Kotka. Student Union Kaakko will be officially launched on 1 January 2017. All students in degree programmes provided by South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences can become members of the student union. The undertakings specified in the Polytechnics Act will continue to be the most important responsibilities of the student union: it acts as a link between its members, promoting their social and intellectual objectives and efforts, as well as their objectives related to studies and students’ position in society. For its part, the student union prepares students for an active and critical citizenship and promotes social awareness."
University of Applied Sciences Students in Finland – SAMOK
University of Applied Sciences Students in Finland – SAMOK is a national, politically independent non-profit service organisation for students at universities of applied sciences (UAS). The organisation is led by students, and it works to promote students’ interests. SAMOK ensures that the students’ voices are heard by the state administration and other relevant stakeholders. SAMOK represents 26 student unions and nearly 140,000 UAS students. As a member of SAMOK, Student Union Kaakko participates in decision-making on SAMOK’s objectives and guidelines.
SAMOK co-operates with other student and youth organisations, party-political actors and labour market organisations. The Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture is its most important partner in co-operation. Other important collaboration partners include the Finnish Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, the Finnish Higher Education Evaluation Council (FINHEEC), the Rectors’ Conference of Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences (ARENE), the Social Insurance Institution of Finland and the Finnish Student Health Service. SAMOK can influence matters concerning students at the European level through its umbrella organisation, the European Students’ Union (ESU), and the Nordic-Baltic co-operation forum, Nordiskt ordförandemöte (NOM).

Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL)
The Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL), founded in 1924, is a national advocacy and service organisation that promotes Finnish student sports. OLL represents all Finnish higher education students, thus being the largest student association in Finland. OLL engages in advocacy work, training and research, provides services and works in national and international fields to promote student sports.
The primary goal of OLL is to ensure that students get enough exercise and have opportunities for sport and exercise by providing them with quality sports services. The mission is to promote well-being and a sports culture among higher education students by acting as the foremost advocate and expert of Finnish higher education student sports. OLL’s work supports all students regardless of the type of exercise or sport.
OLL pursues its goals through sports policy advocacy and by co-ordinating sports competitions and member events.
